Directing and creative work
Tristan's work behind the scenes is an equally important part of his creative life. He has directed opera and operetta productions including The Magic Flute, Così fan tutte, The Mikado, Iolanthe, The Pirates of Penzance, Patience and H.M.S. Pinafore.
His creative work also includes adapting and directing shortened versions of operettas, writing narration, and creating, writing and directing staged concert programmes. Most recently writing two scripted programmes for the Calne Music & Arts Festival - Opera Through The Ages and A Journey Through Operetta.
Across these projects, he enjoys finding ways to bring musical theatre to life, shape a compelling performance and connect audiences with the work on stage.
Beyond the stage
Away from performance, Tristan has a longstanding interest in wildlife and the natural world. He holds a British Trust for Ornithology bird-ringing licence, undertakes farmland bird surveys and writes about birds and wildlife for small publications. He also enjoys woodworking and practical creative projects, including props and staging for theatre productions. These interests offer a different kind of problem-solving, craftsmanship and the opportunity to make something tangible.
